In November of 2020 I wrote to state and federal ministers of Fisheries and Environment to ask for action on biodegradable fishing lines. The letter and any responses are copied below

Dear Ministers,
BIODEGRADABLE FISHING LINE
I am an avid shorewalker in Western Australia and from time to time visit beaches, lakes and rivers in other parts of the country.
Discarded fishing line is a long term blight upon the environment. I note that biodegradable fishing line is now available to a standard and at a price that makes its general adoption attractive.
Will the Minister support legislation to introduce an industry sensitive timeframe for the mandatory use of biodegradable fishing line for both commercial and recreational fishing?
Regards,
Sean Burke
